♪ Getting Started

All students need to bring this form to their first lesson: Student Info

Beginning violin students need:
  • Violin with bow & case (local stores* rent them out; or a national dealer will loan me an assortment of violins and bows for students to sample before purchasing)
  • Rosin (light or dark, doesn't matter)
  • Everest® or Kun® shoulder rest to fit instrument (do NOT buy a Muco or other offbrand)
  • Music stand (lightweight and portable is fine)
  • Sharpened pencil
  • Daily time to explore & enjoy your violin by playing through lesson pieces
  • Time to listen to violin music--any & all styles (classical, bluegrass, jazz, Broadway, movie soundtracks, contemporary Christian hits, etc) will be beneficial to developing the ear
Within the first few lessons, each student will be asked to purchase:

  • Tuner (can be an app...ClearTune is my favorite); Snark® clip on tuner is perfect
  • Metronome (I use the Pro Metronome app)
  • Lesson book (to be assigned based on student's learning style and goals)
